Restaurant Solstice

Bill and I recently found ourselves in Kingston, Mass. Wary of the South Shore dining scene from years of bland spaghetti and meatballs, I was skeptical when someone recommended a restaurant named Solstice.
We decided to try it. Located in a converted railroad station, Bill and I knew from the moment we walked in that we had come to the right place. The conversion to a restaurant was done beautifully and very inviting. The hostess was warm and friendly and took us to our table immediately. The serving staff was knowledgeable about the menu; friendly but not overly so as happens in many restaurants today.
To start we had lightly battered and fried calamari served piping hot and a dozen local oysters on ice and salt with lots of lemon and horseradish.
For the entrées, I had perfectly cooked local black cod, Bill had scallop risotto and Marc had the usual deep-fried chicken cutlet nestled on Yukon mashed potatoes. For sides, asparagus sprinkled with slivered Parmesan and French string beans.
Dessert was also terrific - chocolate cake with fabulous coffee cream.
We enjoyed our dinner so much that we asked where Chef Cataldi had gone to school and were told the CIA. (I found out later he makes his own ice cream and just about everything else too.)
