I did not think it possible to enjoy the perfect BLT in late March and yet...and yet...
After a Sunday morning jaunt to the San Rafael Farmer's Market, I came home with 4 Bruins Farms (Winters, CA) tomatoes, 2 California avocados (origin unrecollected) and a 1-lb package of Range Brothers (sold via Prather Ranch, Oregon) Applewood Smoked Maple Bacon.
Bruins sold only tomatoes at this week's market. A new customer, I was skeptical of their perfect color, shape and firmness. (Seriously? These are non-GMO tomatoes?) A brief conversation across the stand lead to trial.
Seriously, these greenhouse tomatoes are everything a tomato should be ~ bursting with flavor, firm on the outside, tender on the inside, red, ripe ~ and of course, they could not be at the FM if they had a whiff of GM about them.
And what could be bad about applewood~maple anything pork? Cut a little thick, the Range bacon cooked up to a beautiful golden color without much to-do on my part and the aroma alone would kill a more delicate consumer.
then:
My usual GF bread from Sami's and my usual grapeseed oil Vegenaise, on top of which I gently layered a leaf of romaine, three pieces of bacon, 2 slices of tomato and a slathering of avocado. (BLTA)
But, oh! The miracle of combination! Three types of fat, three types of sweet, hint of smoke ~ need I say more?Labels: bacon, BLT, Bruins Farms, lettuce and tomato, Range Brothers, San Rafael Farmers Market, sandwich
